The town of Coalinga, CA decided to bet it’s future on building a prison. The town lost the bet and the prison sat unused. Nothing was gained but debt to the community. The city council decided to the sell the prison for over $4,000,000.00 to a company in Southern California that grows and produces medical marijuana. Now a place that would have housed offenders of the various marijuana related criminal statutes will in fact be a home to the production of the medical marijuana products. According to the article at the link below at least 100 jobs have already been created. It appears that the ability of municipalities and states to generate cash from marijuana will do more to drive the move to legalize it than anything else.

On a hot, sunny Saturday morning three years ago today, Leila Fowler was brutally murdered in her home on Rippon Road in Valley Springs, CA. Calaveras County believes the killer is behind bars despite the remarkable lack of evidence to support that conviction.
We honor Leila by continuing to search for the real killer and interviews with witnesses we were unable to reach have been conducted as recently as yesterday evening.
If anyone has any information they believe was overlooked or never followed up on please let us know.
Throughout the Leila Fowler murder investigation and trial, the prosecution relied heavily on the fact that no one saw anyone go into or away from the Fowler house on the morning of Leila’s murder. No one heard any screams either. Therefore, Isiah Fowler (the only person known to have been in the house at the same time) must be guilty. His story of an intruder killing his sister must be false. No one could get into and out of the house without being seen.
For example, on Saturday February 13, 2016 Lodi, CA police were called to a house in a tightly spaced development on the 2300 block of Woodlake Circle, after a relative found the body of 74 year Dorothy Wiederrich. Ms. Wiederrich was stabbed to death. Neighbors did not call the police because they didn’t see or hear anything. Someone got in, brutally killed this woman and then escaped and no one saw or heard a thing.
It happened in Valley Springs, CA. It just happened in Lodi, CA.
It can happen anywhere.
The link appearing below is to an article outlining the alleged existence of a warehouse in Chicago that is used as an unofficial location for interrogation in which detainees are allowed none of their constitutional rights to counsel. I know from personal experience that the concept of an offsite location was used by local law enforcement. At least one witness in a case was asked to appear in at a warehouse for questioning on a Saturday night. The warehouse was not even in the same county as the incident being investigated.
For reasons unknown to me because I was not in attendance at the hearing last week, the Court moved to push back the start of the Fowler trial by two weeks. No doubt some sort of conflict existed that caused the court to call the prosecution and defense into the Courthouse to change the date. Right now it looks like the date for the start of trial is February 23, 2015. I will post any corrections if they prove necessary.
The hearing held on Monday Otober 6, 2014 resulted in setting a hearing scheduled for Tuesday November 25, 2014 to a a new trial date. The issue of testing physical evidence continues to be central to the delays.
In the meantime, internet sniping continues and the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Dept. continues to leave its motor idling in the Norman Gresham murder case. In October 25, 2013 article appearing on http://www.mymotherload.com, Sheriff Kuntz was quoted as saying, “When I get back to work on Monday, I am going to get my Homicide Investigators together get a full briefing. If it’s what I’m thinking it’s going to be, we will probably make an arrest next week.” Now more than a year later and the survivor and uncooperative witness Jessica Elder claims to be out touring the country in a 5th wheeler and no arrest has been made. Not a mention in the papers and no one in West Point seems to care either.
In a September radio interview Sheriff Kuntz simply said that he believed his department is on the right track in the Gresham case. Apparently it is not an express line.
September 22, 2014 was supposed to be the start of the Leila Fowler murder trial. Instead of a Calaveras County Superior Court Judge hearing opening statements in the case, he set October 6, 2014 as the date for a hearing to set a new trial date. Testing by defense experts of the blood and DNA samples that the prosecution held for 14 months could not be fully completed in the two months the defense had access to them.
Today’s hearing was punctuated by a confrontation between friends of the Fowler family and an individual who has repeatedly hurled accusations at the family from the safety of the internet and from positions in the crowds that appeared at the earlier hearings. He has even been confronted by Calaveras County Sheriffs regarding allegations that he had access to private documents.
To give you an some idea of what kind of person he is, his Face Book page prominently features photos of the compound fracture of the leg suffered by the University of Louisville’s Kevin Ware in the 2013 NCAA tournament. Why anyone would display the photo of this young man’s broken bone jutting out from below his knee is beyond my ability to comprehend. However, that is the mentality of man who has taken it upon himself to harass the Fowler family.
